The authoritative American magazine "Consumer Reports" annually conducts research of the automobile market in order to determine the reliability of "iron horses" of a particular brand, conducting a survey of about 400 thousand drivers.
But this time, the publication went further, preparing and publishing in March 2018 a list of ten "very reliable cars" (capable of covering over 300 thousand kilometers or more without significant financial investments).
To compile this rating, experts from "Consumer Reports" conducted a survey of respondents who own and use "old" equipment - cars that have driven more than 300 thousand kilometers, but over the past year (12 months) did not cause any serious problems to their owners. That is, it was hit by "iron horses", which either broke extremely rarely, or in general - they were in good condition for the entire period of time.
The final rating includes ordinary cars (including those with a hybrid drive), SUVs, minivans and pickups. But most notably, nine out of ten of its representatives are from Japan (and from two automakers - Toyota and Honda).

As experts of "Consumer Reports" were convinced, to maintain cars from this dozen in proper condition does not require much effort - you just need to monitor their technical condition and carry out all the necessary maintenance. However, it is worth making a reservation here - it takes a long time to compile such a rating (and the consumer qualities of certain models can change noticeably over time / generational change).
During the survey, Consumer Reports experts also identified other cars that managed to drive more than 300 thousand kilometers, but they were not included in the rating. over the past year, their owners have had to make a decent investment in repairs and maintenance.
As a result, one conclusion suggests itself - it is better to immediately purchase a reliable and safe car (even if spending a little more money), and in the future, simply carry out all the necessary manipulations to maintain it in excellent condition, passing maintenance on time.
