In March 1998, at the Geneva Motor Show, the premiere show of the "universal" Ford Focus Estate of the first generation took place. Serial production of the car continued until 2004, after which a second generation model was released.

The exterior of the "Focus" in the station wagon is designed in the same style called "New edge" as the exterior of the sedan, and its distinctive features are in the layout of the rear, due to which the car looks more heavy and solid.

The monumental stern contains a large tailgate, compact lights and a neat bumper.

The station wagon is the largest representative of the "Focus" family: 4438 mm long, 1477 mm high and 1702 mm wide. The wheelbase in the car is allocated 2615 mm, and its ground clearance reaches 170 mm.

The interior of the "universal" Ford Focus 1st generation is completely identical to that of the three-volume model, both in terms of design and finishing materials used, and in terms of accommodating the driver and passengers.

The main advantage of the station wagon is a large cargo compartment, the volume of which in the standard state is 520 liters, taking into account the fact that a full-size "spare wheel" is hidden under the raised floor. The storage space can be expanded to 1200 liters by transforming the back of the rear sofa.

Under the hood of the "Focus" of the first generation, you can find four gasoline engines of the Zetec series with a volume of 1.4 to 2.0 liters, the potential of which has from 75 to 130 "horses" and from 123 to 183 Nm of ultimate thrust, as well as two TDDI diesel units with a volume of 2.0 liters each , issuing 90 or 116 horsepower (200 or 250 Nm of torque).
They are combined with a "mechanic" for five gears or a 4-speed automatic transmission.

At the heart of the five-door Ford Focus is a Ford C170 "bogie" with an independent running gear in a circle (McPherson-type front, multi-link rear). The layout of the steering and braking system does not differ from that of the sedan.

In Russia, the 1st generation Ford Focus enjoyed stable popularity, therefore, a large number of station wagons are offered in the secondary market, the prices for which (in 2015) are scattered from 130,000 to 250,000 rubles, depending on the version, year of manufacture and technical component.
