This car, according to official representatives of Renault, was developed with the active participation of Russian engineers - especially for the market of our country, with taking into account "the peculiarities of car operation in Russia." Objectively, this model can be characterized much more simply - "glamorous Duster" ...

A compact crossover called "Kaptur" (with the appearance of the European "Captur" and equipment from "Duster") was first officially shown in the innovation cluster "Technopolis Moscow" on March 30, 2016 (in May its "technical details" were disclosed, and already in sales started in June 2016 on the territory of the Russian Federation).

In this form, the five-door continued to exist until May 21, 2020 - it was then that a restyled crossover was presented to the general public during an online presentation, which, by the way, practically did not change from the outside, with the exception of a redesigned radiator grille, redesigned wheels and an expanded palette of body colors. As for the rest, the metamorphoses are more significant - the car was seriously "shaken up" by the interior, making it more modern, ergonomic and of high quality, the platform was modernized, the 1.3-liter turbo engine was separated and new options were installed.

The exterior of Renault Kaptur is designed in the style of the latest models of the French brand - the SUV is perceived as a real "strong man", but it looks beautiful and impressive from any angle.

The front of the car is decorated with expressive spotlight optics, encircling the "family" radiator grille with a large diamond, and a raised bumper with C-shaped strokes of LED running lights, and its lean stern demonstrates cool lights and a neat bumper.

On the side, the "Frenchman" is harmoniously cut, and the sloping roof with the line of the "window sill" tending to meet it and elegant stampings add dynamism to it. Even more "cheer up" the exterior of the SUV are designed to provide ample customization options and light-alloy "rollers" with dimensions of 16-17 inches.

The overall length of Renault Kaptur is 4333 mm, of which the gap between the axles fits in 2674 mm, and it has a height and width of 1613 mm and 1813 mm (excluding the side mirrors). The bottom of the car is separated from the roadway by 205 mm clearance, and its exit and entry angles are 31 and 20 degrees, respectively.

Interior

In the salon “Kaptur” welcomes you with a stylish and well-developed design, as well as good-quality finishing materials. The front panel is bold, with a beautiful center console flaunting the 8-inch screen of the Easy Link multimedia system and the "complex" air conditioning unit. The driver's direct control is a three-spoke steering wheel with a raised rim, as well as a nice and laconic "toolbox" with a digital speedometer.

There are five seats here, but the rear sofa, despite the comfortable profile, does not differ in excess of free space - there is not much of it in the legs for tall passengers, and the sloping roof slightly presses on their heads.

The front seats in the crossover are simple, without much support on the sides, but with a wide range of adjustments.

The cargo compartment with smooth walls in the "campaign" is not impressive in size - its volume is 387 liters. The back of the "gallery" is folded in a pair of unequal parts (in a ratio of 60:40), but in this case a completely flat floor does not work, but the stock of cargo space increases to 1200 liters.

A narrow spare wheel with dimensions 145/90 / R16 is stored in a niche under the raised floor.

Specifications

In the Russian market, the 2020 Renault Kaptur is offered with two gasoline engines to choose from:

  • By default, the crossover is equipped with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder "aspirated" with multipoint injection, 16-valve DOHC timing and variable valve timing, generating 114 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 156 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm.
  • "Top" versions relies on a 1.3-liter aluminum engine with direct injection, a turbocharger with an electronically controlled bypass valve, a 16-valve timing chain drive, roller valve lifters, two phase shifters and a variable displacement oil pump producing 150 hp. at 5250 rpm and 250 Nm of peak thrust at 1700 rpm.

The "junior" unit is combined with a 5-speed "mechanics" or a continuously variable Jatco variator and an exclusively front-wheel drive transmission, and the "senior" unit is combined only with an "automatic" gearbox, but at the same time with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive (having a multi-plate GKN clutch in the rear wheel drive).

It is worth noting that before the 2020 update, this car was equipped with a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine developing 143 hp. and 195 Nm, which was combined with a 6-speed "mechanics" or 4-band "automatic" and four drive wheels.

Dynamics, speed and consumption

From standstill to 100 km / h, the five-door accelerates after 10.1-12.9 seconds, gains a maximum of 166-188 km / h, and in mixed conditions "drinks" an average of 6.9-7.4 liters of fuel for each "hundred" of run, depending on the modification.

Design features

At the heart of "Captura" is the platform "B0" with hefty modifications, which is why the French company is asked to call it "Global Access". An independent architecture with McPherson struts is installed in the front of the SUV, and the design of the rear suspension depends on the modification: a semi-independent torsion beam on mono-drive cars and a "multi-link" on all-wheel drive versions.

The car is separated by a rack and pinion steering gear with an electromechanical power steering and a braking system that combines ventilated discs at the front, drum devices at the rear and modern electronics.

Options and prices

In the Russian market, the new Renault Kaptur in 2020 is offered in two trim levels to choose from - Life and Edition One.

  • A basic crossover with a 1.6-liter engine, "mechanics" and all-wheel drive can be purchased at a price of 1,020,000 rubles, and it is equipped with: two airbags, an ERA-GLONASS system, air conditioning, four power windows, starting the engine from a button, heating and power mirrors, an audio system, 16-inch alloy wheels and some other options.
  • For a car in the Edition One version with a turbo engine, a "manual" gearbox and a front-wheel drive transmission, they ask for a minimum of 1,440,000 rubles, and for a four-wheel drive, you will have to pay another 75,000 rubles. Its features include: six airbags, single-zone climate control, front and rear parking sensors, cruise control, a media center with an 8-inch screen, all-round cameras, LED headlights and lights, light and rain sensors, blind spot monitoring, high-quality " music ", heated both rows of seats, 17-inch wheels and other" chips ".
